Alexandr Wang stated in an internal meeting that Watermelon uses ten times more computing power than its predecessor and is closing in on rivals like OpenAI and Anthropic Meta has once again signaled internally that it is making strides in the artificial intelligence race. In an all-hands meeting, Alexandr Wang, who leads Meta's primary AI lab, said the company's next model — known internally as Watermelon — has reached OpenAI's GPT-5.5, according to two people familiar with the meeting who spoke to Business Insider. Wang, Meta's head of superintelligence, cited results on benchmarks — comparative tests used to measure AI model performance. It remains unclear, however, which evaluations were used as the basis for the comparison with OpenAI.
